Toxipedia is the free toxicology encyclopedia and resource center, that welcomes everyone to help contribute to a healthier world.

Featured Article: Chemical Weapons

The modern era of chemical weaponry began in the First World War and advances in synthetic chemistry led to the development of increasingly potent compounds such as nerve agents and VX. Chemical weaponry stockpiling was an integral part of the arms race throughout the Cold War and they were used during that time by Egypt, Iraq, and Iran. The Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993 outlaws the production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons for all signatories (all but 8 nations have signed). Read more about Chemical Weapons.
